Nationwide, over 7,000 children and young adults die each year from cardiac issues. Children participating in athletics are particularly susceptible to sudden cardiac arrest.

In 27J, we have an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) in every one of our schools, with an additional AED located near athletic areas in our high schools. But we can be better equipped to respond to cardiac issues.

27J is working with Play With Heart to raise funds for five additional AEDs for use in 27J. This project will provide a dedicated AED to Brighton High School, Prairie View High School, and Riverdale Ridge High School to travel with each school’s teams to away games. The other two AEDs will complete our mission of having an AED placed in every staffed building in the District.
